Municipal government financial statistics update, 2018/2019 to 2022/2023

Released: 2025-04-08

Today, Statistics Canada is publishing an update of the Municipal Financial Data Dashboard by adding eight cities, including Laval, Gatineau, Longueuil, Sherbrooke, Lévis, Saguenay, Terrebonne and Trois-Rivières.

This dashboard provides comparable financial data and indicators at the municipal level. Not only does it show data for municipalities over time, but it also allows for the comparison of municipalities side by side and of multiple municipalities.

Statistics Canada is also releasing more detailed estimates of water expenses for 44 municipalities. These estimates include operating expense data for municipal drinking water and sewer services from 2020/2021 to 2022/2023. These data are available upon request.

Additionally, Statistics Canada is releasing experimental drinking water plant capacity utilization estimates, at the provincial level, by integrating data from the 2022 Canada's Core Public Infrastructure Survey and the 2021 Drinking Water Plant Survey. These data are also available upon request.
