Study: Motion picture, video and sound recording industries, 2023

Released: 2024-12-18

Today, Statistics Canada is publishing "Workforce insights: Demographics in the motion picture, video and sound recording industries, 2015 to 2023," the second of a three-study series. This paper explores the demographic differences among employees in the film, television and video production industry; the film, television and video post-production industry; the film and video distribution industry; the motion picture theatres industry; and the sound recording industry. It leverages administrative data to examine the workforce distribution by gender, age and full-time work status. Across most of this industry group, the largest portion of employees were under the age of 44, and a significant proportion was employed part-time. However, trends varied across the industry classifications.

Results for the publishing industries will be released on January 9, 2025.
