Maple products, 2024

Released: 2024-12-12

Production of maple products

19.9 million gallons

2024

91.3% increase

(annual change)

Canadian maple producers harvested 19.9 million gallons of maple syrup in 2024, up 91.3% compared with 2023. Favourable weather conditions and increased yields contributed to a record harvest in 2024. Production was higher across all four maple-producing provinces in 2024 after a challenging 2023 due to severe weather, such as storms and temperature fluctuations.

Total production in Canada's top maple-producing province, Quebec, rose sharply to 18 million gallons in 2024, up 8.7 million gallons (+92.2%) from 2023. Production was higher in 2024 due to increased yields and more taps compared with one year earlier. The increase will aid in replenishing the global strategic reserve, which fell to its lowest level in 16 years in 2023.

Ontario maple producers harvested 607,000 gallons of syrup in 2024, up by just over one-fifth (+20.9%) from one year earlier. Warm temperatures earlier in 2024 extended the season for some producers, following a delayed and shorter season in 2023 due to cold temperatures.

In New Brunswick, expansions and higher yields led to production more than doubling (+128.8%) to 1.2 million gallons in 2024 after a poor harvest in 2023 due to lower yields stemming from poor weather conditions. Production in Nova Scotia increased by almost one-third from 2023 to 43,000 gallons in 2024.

Canadian producers exported 8.4 million gallons of maple products in the first three quarters of 2024, up 8.8% from the same period in 2023. Maple syrup is exported mainly to the United States, Germany, United Kingdom, Australia, France and Japan.
