Building permit values in Canada were down 7.0% in August compared with July. Newfoundland and Labrador down 1.0%, Prince Edward Island down 47.3%, Nova Scotia down 15.0%, New Brunswick up 7.7%, Quebec down 2.1%, Ontario down 5.2%, Manitoba down 31.5%, Saskatchewan down 0.8%, Alberta up 7.5%, British Columbia down 21.0%, Yukon up 10.4%, Northwest Territories down 79.9%, Nunavut up 29.1%.

Residential: The total value was down 5.2% month over month.

Non-residential: The total value was down 9.7% month over month.

Single-family dwellings: the total value was $2,740 million, representing a month-over-month increase of 5.8% or $151.0 million.

Multi-family dwellings: the total value was $4,340 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 11.0% or $538.2 million.

Industrial: the total value was $1,335 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 3.1% or $42.6 million.

Commercial: the total value was $2,144 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 2.1% or $46.2 million.

Institutional: the total value was $903 million, representing a month-over-month decrease of 29.7% or $382.2 million.
