Regional Discussion Report: Review of First Nations, Métis and Inuit questions for the 2026 Census of Population
Released: 2024-05-29
Statistics Canada is preparing for the 2026 Census of Population to ensure the collection of accurate and timely data about First Nations people, Métis and Inuit in Canada.
From November 2022 to March 2023, Statistics Canada undertook a series of regional discussions with First Nations people, Métis and Inuit from across the country. These discussions focused on the questions asked in the 2021 Census of Population and in other Statistics Canada surveys to produce data about First Nations people, Métis and Inuit.
The goal of this report is to summarize the feedback heard in the regional discussions. This feedback was used to prepare questions that are being tested in the 2024 Census Test. To find out more about the 2024 Census Test, please visit The road to the 2026 Census on the Statistics Canada website.
