The first series of bars shows the following population growth rates from 2011 to 2016: the total Indigenous population grew by 18.9%, the total First Nations population by 13.8%, First Nations people with Registered or Treaty Indian status by 16.8%, First Nations people without Registered or Treaty Indian status by 8.6%, Métis by 30.0% and Inuit by 9.4%.

The second series of bars shows the following population growth rates from 2016 to 2021: the total Indigenous population grew by 9.4%, the total First Nations population by 9.7%, First Nations people with Registered or Treaty Indian status by 4.1%, First Nations people without Registered or Treaty Indian status by 27.2%, Métis by 6.3% and Inuit by 8.5%.

Note(s): The growth rates for the Indigenous identity population for the periods 2011 to 2016 and 2016 to 2021 have been adjusted for incompletely enumerated reserves and settlements, and other changes in reserves, to allow for comparison of the different census year periods.
