Two new National Occupational Classification variants

Released: 2022-07-11

The newly created Variant of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 Version 1.0 for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) by the Statistics Canada's Centre for Statistical and Data Standards (CSDS) is now publicly available.

We want to thank everyone who participated in the public consultation process for the preliminary variant - NOC 2016 Version 1.2 – STEM Perspective in 2019. Given the major restructuring of the NOC for 2021, the 'STEM perspective' was modified to the NOC 2021 Version 1.0 for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This final variant replaces any previous preliminary versions.

This new variant of the NOC 2021 Version 1.0 has been developed to enable the analysis of occupational data within and between STEM, STEM-related, and Other than STEM groupings. This aligns with Statistics Canada's continuous user-centric efforts in providing an additional standardized tool to analyze the Canadian ecosystem of occupations.

The CSDS is also announcing the release of the Variant of the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 Version 1.0 for Analysis by Training, Education, Experience and Responsibility (TEER). This is an update of the previous "Variant of the NOC 2016 Version 1.0 - Analysis by Skill Level" to reflect the major structural revisions found in the NOC 2021.
