Fertilizer Shipments Survey, third quarter 2021/2022

Released: 2022-05-20

In the third quarter of the 2021/2022 fertilizer year, shipments of potash within Canada reached 812 000 tonnes, down 2.8% year over year, as a decrease in the Prairie provinces (-36.5%) more than offset an increase in the Eastern provinces (+30.8%). Meanwhile, market inventories of potash in Canada rose 24.8% to 2 186 000 tonnes on March 31, 2022 compared with the same day a year earlier.

Over the same quarter, shipments of several fertilizer products to the United States were all up, compared with the same quarter a year earlier, including ammonia (+18.1%), urea (+9.3%) and urea ammonium nitrate (+31.0%). This continued the trends observed in the first two quarters of the fertilizer year, as demand was strong south of the border.
