Poultry and egg statistics, September 2020

Released: 2020-10-06

During the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, an increase was observed in the stocks of frozen chicken, which was likely caused by the closures in the hotel and restaurant industries, resulting in reduced demand. In addition, there has also been a decrease in the production of processed eggs as a result of the pandemic. The changes made to the workplace health and safety guidelines have led to the slower production of processed eggs. However, Canada's processed egg production in July 2020 was down 21.9% on a year-over-year basis, compared with a 49.1% decrease in April 2020.

Data on stocks of frozen eggs and poultry meats, as well as edible dried egg products, are available for September. Data on the placements of hatchery chicks and turkey poults are available for August, and data on egg production are available for July.

Data on frozen eggs and poultry meats include chicken, turkey and duck stocks, as well as stocks of egg whites, egg yolks and dried eggs. Data on egg production include production, disposition, home consumption and egg prices.
