In today's data rich environment, understanding data is becoming more important for everyone. As Canada's national statistical organization, Statistics Canada is committed to sharing our knowledge and expertise to help all Canadians develop the knowledge and skills on how to use and understand data.
The Data Literacy Training Initiative provides a wealth of resources aimed at those who are new to data, or those who have some experience with data but may need a refresher or want to expand their knowledge. The goal is to provide learners with the basic concepts and skills related to a range of data literacy topics, including What is Data? An Introduction to Data Terminology and Concepts and Types of Data: Understanding and Exploring Data.
The training offerings are organized around a data journey. The data journey represents different stages and activities in the data process, starting with finding, exploring, and analyzing data through to telling the data story. A series of short training videos provide an introduction to many of these concepts, as well as foundational information on data quality and stewardship.
Be sure to check back regularly as we will continue to release new training.
