Prices received by farmers in July for grains, oilseeds, specialty crops, cattle, hogs, poultry, eggs and dairy products are now available at the provincial level.
The price for hogs weakened in July compared with June. Reduced processing capacity at slaughter plants due to closures related to COVID-19 created a backlog of hogs to be processed, and this resulted in lower hog prices.
Oilseed prices strengthened in July compared with June on increasing domestic and export demand. Meanwhile, lentil prices continued the month-over-month increases that began in October 2019 as export demand remained strong.
Note to readers
The price of over 35 commodities is available by province, with some data series going back 40 years. Price data are extracted from administrative files and derived from Statistics Canada surveys.
