An updated set of preliminary data on the number of confirmed novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases reported by the provincial and territorial public health authorities to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) is now available. Along with this dataset, there are now two aggregated tables that summarize the information available in the data set. The updated information covers the period from January 15 to June 21, 2020.

The dataset and table include information for a total of 92,833 COVID-19 cases in Canada as of June 21, 2020. Data include detailed information received by PHAC from the provincial and territorial public health authorities such as suspected source of exposure and clinical course and outcome such as hospitalization, intensive care admission, and death. Data are also available by demographic characteristics, such as age group and sex.

  Note to readers

Because the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly evolving, these data are considered preliminary and are subject to change. The data published by Statistics Canada only account for those where detailed case information was submitted by the provincial or territorial public health authority to the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). These data may not match the total case reporting done at the provincial and territorial levels, which are reported regularly by each jurisdiction and compiled by PHAC. The discrepancy may be due to delays in reporting, and variability in reporting cut-offs. Hence, these data are a subset of the total of all reported cases in Canada.

Routine updates on health outcome status are not uniformly made across Canada, and therefore the data may underestimate the number of hospitalizations, admissions to intensive care units and deaths.

As part of its continued commitment to provide Canadians with much-needed information during the COVID-19 pandemic, Statistics Canada partnered with PHAC to make preliminary information on the number of COVID-19 cases available to the public.

The table, "Detailed preliminary information on confirmed cases of COVID-19 (revised), Public Health Agency of Canada" provides detailed information on suspected source of exposure, as well as on clinical course and outcome, such as hospitalization, intensive care admission, and death. Data are also available by demographic characteristics, such as age group and sex.

The table, "Preliminary information on confirmed cases of COVID-19: Four dimensions (aggregated data), Public Health Agency of Canada" provides aggregated national and regional level results on exposure source, hospitalization status, intensive care unit status and health outcome, by age group and sex.

The table, "Preliminary information on confirmed cases of COVID-19: Six dimensions (aggregated data), Public Health Agency of Canada" provides aggregated national and regional level results on exposure source, hospitalization status, intensive care unit status and health outcome, by age group and sex.

There is no update to the Atlantic region cases this week.
