Open Database of Educational Facilities
A new dataset is now available as a result of an exploratory initiative aimed at enhancing the use and harmonization of open data from municipal, regional, and provincial sources. An outcome of this exploratory work is a first version of the Open Database of Educational Facilities (ODEF), which contains approximately 20,000 records spanning all of Canada. The purpose of this initiative is to contribute to the creation of a detailed, comprehensive and open database of educational facilities in Canada.
The ODEF contains the following information: data provider, institution name, institution type, address, municipality, province, International Standard Classification of Education level, census subdivision unique identifier, census subdivision name, and a unique identifier for each record. The microdata used to create the ODEF are a collection of data from six open data portals, five provincial and territorial websites (with permission from the data owners), and one federal department. Data were collected from the different data providers from January to July 2019.
For more information on this initiative and to access the data, visit the Open Database of Educational Facilities.
