Canadian potato production, June 2019
Potato farmers planted 360,543 acres (145 906 hectares) of potatoes in 2019, up 3.3% from 2018.
Seeded area was up in Alberta (+11.5%), Manitoba (+5.3%) and New Brunswick (+3.8%). The increase in seeded area is likely in response to the rising demand for processing potatoes. In recent years there has been increased investment in Canada's potato processing sector, to keep up with the growing demand for processed products.
Prince Edward Island accounted for 23.7% of the total potato seeded area in 2019, followed by Manitoba (18.7%) and Alberta (17.1%).
