The Accounting Services Price Index rose by 1.9% in 2017, following a 2.8% increase in 2016. Prices charged by accounting establishments in Canada have risen each year since the survey began in 1999.
Price increases were observed for three of the four types of accounting services covered by the survey. The largest gain was in tax preparation services for individuals and unincorporated businesses (+3.7%). Prices also increased for audit, review, related services and other assurance services (+2.7%), as well as bookkeeping, compilation, payroll and general accounting services (+1.9%).
The increase was somewhat offset by a decline (-1.6%) in prices for tax preparation services for corporate clients, which decreased for the first time since 2013.
