Poultry and egg statistics, September 2018

Stocks of frozen poultry meat in cold storage increased 11.6% from September 1, 2017, to 104 116 tonnes on September 1. As in previous years, turkey holds the largest portion of stocks of frozen poultry meat during the pre-Thanksgiving season.

In August, placements of hatchery chicks on farms increased 1.0% compared with August 2017 to 69.8 million birds. Over the same period, placements of turkey poults decreased 3.0% to 1.8 million birds.

Continuing its steady growth on a year-over-year basis, egg production rose 4.6% from July 2017 to 67.8 million dozen in July, while the value of production of eggs increased 8.8% to $127 million.
