The For-hire Motor Carrier Freight Services Price Index increased 3.1% in the first quarter, following a 2.8% increase in the fourth quarter of 2017. This was the seventh consecutive quarterly gain.
Both the general freight trucking (+3.4%) and the specialized freight trucking (+2.4%) components increased.
Year-over-year change
The index was up 7.5% in the first quarter compared with the same quarter in 2017. Both the general freight trucking (+8.4%) and the specialized freight trucking (+5.5%) components rose.

The For-hire Motor Carrier Freight Services Price Index measures changes over time in prices for the for-hire motor carrier freight services provided by general and specialized freight trucking companies.
Data are available at the Canada level only.
With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. The series are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted.
