The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index increased 0.3% in the second quarter, following a 0.2% decrease in the first quarter.
Construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment was up 0.1%, and office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment rose 1.0%.
Year-over-year change
The index fell 0.2% in the second quarter compared with the same quarter of 2016. This was the 10th consecutive quarter to post an annual decline, reflecting market conditions in the rental and leasing of heavy machinery and equipment for construction, transportation, mining and forestry.
Construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment decreased 1.0%, while office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment increased 2.2%.

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index (CIMERLSPI) measures price changes of rental and leasing activities for the commercial and industrial machinery and equipment industry.
Data are available at the Canada level only.
With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. The series are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted.
The CIMERLSPI combines the North American Industry Classification System codes 53242 and 53249.
