Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index, fourth quarter 2015

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index fell 1.1% in the fourth quarter.

The index declined for five consecutive quarters, reflecting market conditions in the rental and leasing of heavy machinery and equipment for construction, transportation, mining and forestry.

Construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment declined 1.2%, while office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment edged up 0.1%.

Year-over-year change

The index was down 3.5% in the fourth quarter compared with the same quarter of 2014. Construction, transportation, mining and forestry machinery and equipment decreased 4.5%, while office and other commercial and industrial machinery and equipment increased 0.2%.

The Commercial and Industrial Machinery and Equipment Rental and Leasing Services Price Index (CIMERLSPI) measures price changes of rental and leasing activities for the commercial and industrial machinery and equipment industry.

Data are available at the Canada level only.

With each release, data for the previous quarter may have been revised. Data are also subject to an annual revision with the release of second quarter data of the following reference year. The index is not seasonally adjusted.

With the release of second quarter 2015 data, the index has been revised back to the first quarter of 2014 using industry weights from the reference year 2013.

The CIMERLSPI combines the North American Industry Classification System codes 53242 and 53249.
