The public use microdata file for the 2013 General Social Survey (GSS) is now available.

The main objective of the GSS on giving, volunteering and participating is to provide an overall picture of unpaid volunteer activities, charitable giving and participation. The survey included individuals aged 15 years and older living in private households in the provinces.

The 2013 GSS on giving, volunteering and participating uses the method of measuring giving, volunteering and participating established by the 2004, 2007 and 2010 Canada Survey of Giving, Volunteering and Participating.

The initial results from the 2013 General Social Survey on giving, volunteering and participating were released in The Daily on January 30, 2015. The 2013 GSS has also been featured in two articles: "Volunteering and charitable giving in Canada" and "Volunteering in Canada, 2004 to 2013," as part of the publication Spotlight on Canadians: Results from the General Social Survey (Catalogue number89-652-X). Users can also consult the infographic, "The Faces of Volunteers in Canada" (Catalogue number11-627-M). These products are available from the Browse by key resource module of our website under Publications.
