Total operating revenue in the film and video distribution industry was $1.8 billion in 2013. The industry had total operating expenses of $1.5 billion, resulting in an operating profit margin of 18.6%.
The largest expense item in 2013 was royalties, franchise fees and memberships, which represented 32.1% of total operating expenses. Cost of goods sold accounted for 27.1% of expenses, while advertising, marketing and promotions accounted for 20.7%.
In 2013, Ontario accounted for 87.9% of the industry's operating revenue, while Quebec accounted for 10.2%.
The distribution of film and video titles accounted for 71.1% of total sales in 2013, while wholesaling revenue accounted for 28.5%.

The publication Film and Video Distribution () is no longer available. Data from the Annual Survey of Service Industries: Film and Video Distribution will now be released in 87F0010XCANSIM.
With this release, CANSIM tables 361-0049 and 361-0050 are replacing CANSIM tables 361-0014 and 361-0026, which have been terminated.
