Manufacturers' shipments declined 2.9% in October to $40.4 billion-the lowest level since May 1999. Temporary plant closures in the motor vehicle industry, slowing production in the aerospace sector, and declining petroleum and coal prices held down shipments for a second consecutive month.
- Crime comparisons between Canada and the United States, 2000
Over the past 20 years, Canada recorded much lower rates of violent crime than the United States did. However, rates of property offences have generally been higher in Canada, according to a comparison of police-reported crime between the two nations.
