Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Advance indicator, May 2026

Released: 2026-06-24

Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales increased 1.1% in May. The largest increases were in the motor vehicle industry group as well as the chemical subsector.

This estimate was calculated based on a weighted response rate of 70.2%. The average final response rate for the survey over the previous 12 months has been 92.5%. As Statistics Canada continues to collect data for the May reference month, this advance indicator is subject to a higher revision rate than our regular monthly release.

  Note to readers

The percentage change is calculated using seasonally adjusted data in current dollars.

This advance estimate is a special product published to provide Canadians with timely information on the manufacturing sector. The official estimate of manufacturing sales for the month of May, which will be based on a more complete set of survey and administrative data, is scheduled for release on July 15, 2026.

The publication "Statistical Methods Reference Documents" provides insight into the statistical methods used by Statistics Canada to produce official statistics.

The article "Advance indicators: Production, use and interpretation, 2026" provides nontechnical answers to questions related to the production, use and interpretation of advance indicators.
