The North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) Canada 2022 Version 1.0 is available today. The North American Product Classification System (NAPCS) Canada 2022 Version 1.0 replaces NAPCS Canada 2017 Version 2.0.
The changes brought to NAPCS for the 2022 version are made to account for the changing products (goods and services) of Canada, the United States and Mexico. The revision includes classification items scope and code changes, clarifications of titles and definitions, and changes to examples and exclusions.
Special attention for NAPCS Canada 2022 was given to updating the classification of cannabis products to reflect regulations, services related to cloud computing technology, buildings and civil engineering works (infrastructures), recycled and biodegradable plastics, electric and hybrid motor vehicles, electronic cigarettes, and services using new technologies (online intermediary services).
NAPCS was jointly developed as a reference classification by the Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (Mexico's national statistics agency), the Economic Classification Policy Committee of the United States, acting on behalf of the Office of Management and Budget, and Statistics Canada. Each country has developed their national version. The goal is to provide a consistent framework for the collection, analysis and dissemination of product statistics used by policy analysts, academics and researchers, the business community and the public.
