The microdata file for the 2018 Canadian Housing Survey (CHS) is now available at Statistics Canada's Research Data Centres.

Information is collected from Canadian households on their homes, communities, housing needs and housing experiences. The CHS provides information on core housing need, dwelling characteristics and housing tenure, perceptions on economic hardship from housing costs, dwelling and neighbourhood satisfaction, housing moves and intentions to move, community engagement, life and community satisfaction, experience with homelessness and socio-demographic characteristics.

The initial results from the 2018 CHS, such as information on waitlist status for social and affordable housing, dwelling and neighbourhood satisfaction, housing suitability and dwelling conditions, and indicators relating to moving were released on November 22, 2019. Housing indicators and characteristics of first-time homebuyers were released on January 15, 2020.
