Computer and peripherals price indexes, December 2018

The price of desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers rose 0.3% in December.

Tablets (+1.5%), laptops (+0.1%) and desktops and similar computers (+0.1%) contributed to the increase. Server prices were unchanged.

Smartphone prices were flat.

The computer peripherals index was down 0.3% compared with November. Prices for computer monitors decreased 0.4%, while prices for computer printers declined 0.2%.

Year over year, prices for desktop and similar computers, laptop and tablet computers, and servers decreased 2.0%. Prices for computer monitors and computer printers declined 0.7% compared with December 2017.

The computer and peripherals price indexes are a monthly series that measure the changes over time in the price of computers, computer peripherals and smartphones sold to governments, businesses and households. With each release, data for the previous six months may have been revised. The indexes are not seasonally adjusted.

These indexes are available at the Canada level only.
